Piecing together the money for college

Money Matters

Financial Aid

You've chosen a career pathway and now you're ready to get your education. The first step is paying for it. The most important thing to remember is:

You can afford college. We'll show you how.

Applying for financial aid isn't as difficult as it seems and the staff at Skyline, CSM and Cañada are here to assist you. They'll help you find a way to pay for fees, books, and supplies and even rent. With their help, you'll have access to scholarships, grants, and work study programs.

You've probably got lots of questions so take some time to hear from people just like you as they explain how to pay for college.

Scholarships

There are many scholarships available at each of the three community colleges. Visit the Financial Aid offices at each college or check out their websites for listings of available scholarships.

The Health Professions Education Foundation of California provides scholarships and loan repayment programs specifically for students pursuing careers in healthcare. These funds are available for students who agree to work after college in underserved areas of California. It's a great opportunity to give back!

FastWeb provides a comprehensive national database of scholarships for high school and college students.

Tax Credits

You can now claim tax refunds for the purchase of textbooks and other course materials in addition to your tuition! Thanks to the "American Opportunity Tax Credit" you can claim up to $2,500 in course materials, tuition and related expenses. You must keep original receipts and transcripts to be eligible.
